Safety Lead - Regina, SK
The Opportunity:
The purpose of the Safety Lead is to oversee the coordination and implementation of all Burton OH&S operations for business locations in Saskatchewan and Alberta. To ensure safe work conditions and act for all employees, contractors, and visitors. Work to prevent accidents, injuries, property damage, and the adherence to all Provincial Occupational Health & Safety legislations.
This position creates and maintains all activities related to the design and delivery of comprehensive maintenance programs for Burton’s vehicles and equipment.
What You Will be Doing:
Lead in the administration, documentation and management of the Company’s COR Safety program.
Assist in the evaluation and development of all policies, procedures, and processes to enhance the delivery of OHS initiatives at all locations.
Develop, implement and maintain safety and health policies, programs, and procedures for monitoring adherence to the company safety requirements by all locations.
Ensure timely preparation and submission of various reports
Keep management current on the status of any issue(s) that may have an impact on the work being performed.
Conduct mentoring, training and provide presentations to work crews and management on safe work practices.
Conduct field level safety meetings, tool box talks, and health and safety informational awareness.
Mentor location’s personnel by providing instruction and direction
Conduct scheduled and unscheduled occupational health and safety inspections and audits.
Ensure that investigations into injuries, accidents and unsafe acts and conditions are properly conducted, causal factors identified, and appropriate corrective actions recognized and implemented.
Ensuring strict servicing and maintenance times to minimize downtime and maintain schedules.
Maintaining detailed records of vehicle servicing and inspection.
Scheduling regular vehicle and equipment maintenance to ensure operational efficiency and follow up that drivers are adhering to those schedules.
Ensure equipment appearance is maintained to Burton standards
Ability to perform other routine maintenance work as required
Maintain parts inventory
Other duties as required.
Travel will be required to ensure all OHS obligations for this position are met.
Qualifications:
What You Need to Succeed:
A “hands on the tools” professional
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving abilities
Ability to travel 30-50% of time
Ability to travel regionally to facility locations
Ability to work outside non-traditional hours (Evenings, weekends, holidays etc)
Valid Drivers' License with clean driver's abstract.
OHS management system experience in a construction industry
Be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Canada Labor Code part 2, and Provincial health and safety laws.
A highly effective health & safety professional with a record of demonstrated accomplishment in supporting an effective health & safety program
Demonstrate a visible and professional leadership role model and attitude.
Willing to aggressively address problems; assume ownership of issues and provide solutions
Self-directed and self-motivated, demonstrating a high level of professionalism, ethics, confidence and a commitment to a team approach. Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Ability to work efficiently and independently with strong attention to detail.
Must be proficient in MS Office Suite programs (Excel, Word, Outlook etc.).
Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
Must set personal ethical standards at a high level and interact with others at equivalent levels within the organization in a manner that instills similar values
Nice to have:
University degree or College diploma/ certificate in Occupational Health and Safety and/or OHS certifications.
Has formal training on incident investigation methodologies
Ability to perform minor mechanical maintenance
